On Dec. 2, 2009 MSD China attended a meeting at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing with the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency’s (MBDA) mission to China, led by Mr. David Hinson, National Director of the MBDA’s Washington office.
William Zarit, Minister-Counsellor for Commercial Affairs of the Embassy of the United States of America, Sarah Kemp, Commercial Counsellor, and Richard Craig, Commercial Officer of U.S. Commercial Service welcomed the MBDA mission and MSD China group.
The MBDA mission consisted of George Chunkau Mui, MBDA Global Business Consultant; Mr. Phillip Barreda, Executive Vice President of Chicago Minority Business Development Council, regional council of NMSDC, and over ten minority business owners.
MSD China’s group consisted of Ms. Hu Xuejing, officer of the Economic Development Department of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission (SEAC); Mr. Lou Zhou, Director of IBM Global Procurement Centers and MSD China Board Secretary; Mr. Zhang Yu, General Manager of Fix Recovery Technology Development Co., Ltd, a minority business supplier of IBM; Ms. Yang Liu, Director of MSD China, and Ms. Yang Huaiying, Vice Director of MSD China.
Mr. David Hinson was responsible for introducing MBDA and the work it carried. MBDA, U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency has a nationwide network of over 40 business centers and strategic partners. Its mission is to achieve entrepreneurial parity for minority business enterprises through actively promoting their ability to grow and compete in the global economy. MBDA assists minority entrepreneurs and business owners with consulting services, contract and financing opportunities, bonding, building business-to-business alliances and executive training.
MBDA mission delegates were very interested to know more about minority supplier development in China. Mr. David Hinson and his colleagues answered questions relating to the support that the American government provided to the associations, especially during their initial stages. Mr. Phillip Barreda and other delegates listened intently to the challenges that MSD China was facing and gave suggestions on the sustainable growth of the association. Both parties also discussed areas for cooperation and further cemented the relationship which already exists between the organizations.
